Soon after, Similde's fiancé and his brave knights set out to bring the bride back, and soon found themselves at the foot of the rose garden. King Laurin, who had equipped himself with a magic belt that gave him the strength of twelve men, bravely confronted them. But when he realized that he could hardly stand against the superior forces of the knights, he reached for his invisibility cap and disappeared like a ghost among the roses of his red-blooming rose garden.
King Laurin is betrayed by his roses
However, the brave knights were not fooled and unmasked King Laurin by the moving roses that betrayed his presence. They broke his magic spell and took him prisoner.
King Laurin's curse
Furious at his fate, Laurin cast a curse on the rose garden that had betrayed him: no human eye should ever see it bloom again, neither by day nor by night. But Laurin had forgotten about twilight, and so the enchanted garden still glows in the red tones of its roses when the sun goes down. You can admire this magical glow after a wonderful hike from the panoramic terrace of the Pattissenhof hiking hotel and remember the legend of King Laurin.
