Hotel Sonnalp – your hiking hotel in the Kitzbühel Alps
When you arrive at the Hotel Sonnalp, you immediately sense that this is a hotel in the Kitzbühel Alps that has been created with heart and soul, not gigantism. This is evident not only in the lovingly maintained details of the hotel, but above all in the way host Stefan lives his profession—or rather, his passion. For him, hiking is much more than just something he offers his guests.
Hiking in the Kitzbühel Alps full of surprises
The Kitzbühel Alps are a paradise for anyone who wants to combine variety and panoramic views with their hiking vacation in Tyrol. Gentle hills meet wild peaks, and leisurely alpine trails meet challenging mountain tours. "At first glance, the area seems tame," says Stefan, "but if you take a closer look, you'll find plenty of challenges – such as the ascent to the Großer Rettenstein."
A special experience is the view of the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern, which accompany you on many high-altitude hikes. And if you're looking for a change of scenery, take a detour to the Wilder Kaiser or the Hohe Tauern – the possibilities are almost limitless.
"I'm an avid mountaineer and outdoor enthusiast," says Stefan, host and hiking guide at the Hotel Sonnalp. "That's why it was clear to me: the Hotel Sonnalp is perfect as a base camp for mountain sports enthusiasts." Four times a week, he personally guides his guests on tours – across gentle alpine pastures, scenic ridges, and to peaks that offer views far beyond Tyrol.
Hiking together creates a special bond. You get to know each other, strike up a conversation—and suddenly, something happens that you can't plan for: guests become friends.

Your host at Hotel Sonnalp
Personal. Warm. Genuine relaxation.
The Sonnalp does not aspire to be a luxury resort, and that is precisely what makes it so appealing. "We focus on the essentials," says Stefan. "Rest, a warm atmosphere, relaxation, and outdoor activities—that is our approach." After a hike, the 4,000-square-meter garden invites you to take a deep breath. Walk barefoot on the grass, soak up the sun, perhaps read a good book or simply enjoy the silence – it is this unhurried luxury that counts here. A wellness area with sauna facilities, steam bath, indoor pool, and relaxation area also promises deep relaxation and recuperation.
In summer, hiking, biking, and tennis are on the agenda—including two in-house courts. If you like, you can combine hiking and biking and experience the mountains on foot and by bike. In winter, it's time for ski touring, snowshoeing, or skiing – the hotel's own ski and hiking bus will take you to the KitzSki mountain railway, 900 m away.
No matter what time of year, this hotel in the Kitzbühel Alps is a place for people who are looking for exercise, nature, and genuine encounters. A hotel with character – run by someone who knows how to make your heart sing in the mountains.
