This Tour in Winter
7 km - 2h 30 min - 390 Hm - moderate (mostly on snowshoes)
Even in winter, the tour loses none of its charm—quite the opposite. Most of the way, you’ll be snowshoeing through the snow-covered landscape to the Schleier Waterfall. Those who venture out in the depths of winter often experience it at its most spectacular: completely frozen, transformed into delicate ice formations. The loop is slightly shorter than in summer. However, the deep snow requires more effort with every step. Snowshoeing is more strenuous than regular walking. The effort is rewarded with a spectacular view of the frozen waterfall and the snow-capped peaks.

A stop at the Bichlalm
The rustic Bichlalm is a popular stop in every season. In summer, enjoy a refreshing cool drink on the panoramic terrace while taking in the view of the Hintertux Glacier; in winter, warm up with a hot cocoa in the cozy interior.

The Tuxertal Nature and Hiking Hotel
“We love seeing our guests’ hearts light up while they’re hiking,” says Iris, a certified hiking guide and member of the Grubauer family, who run the hotel. Her brother Simon not only leads tours but, as mayor of Tux, also oversees the affairs of the entire valley. Silvia runs the front desk, while Eva prepares delicious meals in the kitchen. The family has been shaped by the years their parents, Hermann and Anni, spent as development aid workers in the 1970s among indigenous communities in the Amazon region. From there, they brought back a simple yet deeply rooted conviction:
It is the community that creates the warmth you need to live, and that warmth is returned a thousandfold. It is this sense of genuine togetherness that guests feel in the house. And that is exactly what makes the waterfall tour so much more than just a beautiful hike.
