When a hotelier becomes a father, fulfills a dream, and you also benefit from it—namely, the most beautiful hike in Saalbach-Hinterglemm—you are likely on a hiking vacation in the Salzburg region and staying at the Wanderhotel Glemmtalerhof. But let's start at the beginning:
In the province of Salzburg, only farmers are allowed to build their own alpine pastures with huts. And that's a good thing, because otherwise entire villages would spring up up there, where everyday life is so magically remote – precisely because it is quiet and secluded. Jörg is an enthusiastic young hotelier at the Glemmtalerhof and a passionate craftsman, but he is not a farmer, and so, to his regret, he has been without a hut until now. For a long time, he wished he could lease an alpine hut—one of the last places of honest and physical craftsmanship, close to nature.
In an alpine pasture, traditional values still count, far away from the status symbols of the modern world. In addition to his desire to host hotel guests there once a week and immerse them in the traditions of his homeland, Jörg also wanted to create a "special place" for his little son Leif. Anyone who has ever spent a day on an alpine pasture knows the magic that surrounds you up there. After a long search, he found what he was looking for: since 2022, Jörg has been the proud tenant of an alpine hut on the Schönleitn in Vorderglemm, which he has re-paneled with larch wood shingles using traditional Pinzgau methods, expanded the interior, and modernized it with his DIY skills. Yes, there is even a mini spa—but in keeping with the simplicity of the alpine pasture: a wood-fired panoramic bathtub that once served as a drinking trough for the cows on the alpine pasture.

Since summer 2024, the Glemmtalerhof hiking guide has been taking guests on the most beautiful hike in Saalbach-Hinterglemm that you can do during a hiking vacation in the Salzburg region: along the Saalachtaler Höhenweg trail, you will hike together to the lovingly renovated hut. There, host Jörg awaits with a Pinzgauer Jaus'n snack, a glass of wine, and a wonderful sunset. It's an emotional experience, and so that everyone can give their feelings a fitting place, you are allowed to attach a shingle to the hut. On the back, you can immortalize your wishes, declarations of love, and most secret emotions. The hotel bus will then take you back in comfort, leaving you with very special memories of an unforgettable day, far away from the hustle and bustle.
