TOP 9.5 Instagrammable spots in the Alps

The phenomenon of Instagrammable spots is very much in vogue. An Instagrammable spot is a place where it is particularly easy to take a particularly impressive photo. And who doesn't want to have these WOW pictures in their feed?
Since our Wanderhotels are located in the most beautiful places in the Alps, the most famous photo spots in the Alps are almost always close to a hiking hotel.

Fascination with two sides

These photo spots are world-famous for good reason: the natural scenery here is so spectacular that almost every shot turns out well. These are places where the Alps show their most photogenic side.

But since the Instagram boom, many people in the mountains are primarily chasing the perfect picture. Yet hiking means so much more than that. It's about really experiencing the moment – feeling the trail beneath your feet, your heart beating as you climb, and how clear the mountain air makes your thoughts, instead of being preoccupied with likes and comments.

Our tip: When you visit particularly popular, "Instagrammable" spots, try to consciously enjoy them despite the crowds. Take in impressions with all your senses – memories count more than digital hearts.

And perhaps even more valuable: discover your own personal favorite places in the region. The hosts at your hiking hotel often know exactly where to find these special hidden gems.

Here are our TOP 9.5 photo spots in the Alps

1. Geisler Peaks above St. Magdalena

The Geisler Peaks above St. Magdalena in the Villnösstal Valley are considered one of the most popular photo motifs in South Tyrol. Particularly well known is the Church of St. Magdalena, which towers over the village of 370 inhabitants and is clearly visible from all directions.

  • Best time: Worth visiting at any time of year
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: easy
  • Tip: Go early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the tourist crowds (this applies to all famous photo spots, by the way).

The view of Lake Achensee from the Bärenkopf is a famous photo spot in the Alps due to its breathtaking beauty.

2. Lake Achensee from Bärenkopf

The view of the deep blue Lake Achensee from Bärenkopf is breathtakingly beautiful. The lake is also known as the "Fjord of Tyrol" because of this view. The hike to this point is worthwhile in itself. Depending on the weather and clouds, the lake glows in different colors, and your Instagram shot can range from lovely to dramatic.

  • Wanderhotel nearby: Verwöhnhotel Kristall****s
  • Best time: There should be no snow
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: moderate/difficult – 1100 meters of elevation gain – 5 hours walking time
  • Tip: Using the Karwendelbahn cable car reduces the walking time to 2.5 hours.

3. The suspension bridge at the Dachstein Glacier

Austria's highest suspension bridge in Styria offers a view 400 m down. The bridge is 100 m long and only one meter wide. There are plenty of photo opportunities: the suspension bridge itself and, of course, the view from the bridge. On the other side of the bridge, you will find the equally famous "Stairway to Nowhere."

  • Wanderhotel nearby: Natur- und Wellnesshotel Höflehner****s
  • Best time: Summer
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: Accessible via the Dachstein Südwandbahn cable car. Not for the faint-hearted.
  • Tip: Dogs are not allowed on the suspension bridge.

4. Lake Carezza

There is a legend surrounding Lake Carezza in South Tyrol that tells of a magician who was so consumed by love that he broke a rainbow in anger and threw the pieces into the lake where his beloved mermaid lived. This is why the crystal-clear water has so many colors. Definitely an Instagram-worthy photo opportunity! In spring, you can spot a bronze mermaid in the water, which then sinks into the meltwater as the water level rises throughout the summer. Mystical!

  • Wanderhotel nearby: Hotel Marica****
  • Best time: anytime
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: easy
  • Tip: In spring, you can spot a bronze mermaid in the lake, which sinks into the meltwater as the water level rises and remains "lost" throughout the summer.

5. The suspension bridge at the Olperer Hut

After hiking to the Olperer Hut in the Zillertal Alps, you can either sit comfortably on the hut's panoramic terrace and watch people posing for Instagram photos on the bridge in all kinds of ways, or you can venture across the abyss yourself. The photo will definitely rock!

  • Wanderhotel nearby: Natur- und Wanderhotel Tuxertal****
  • Best time: Summer / Fall
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: (from Speichersee) medium – approx. 600 meters of elevation gain in one direction, steady climb on a narrow path, 2.8 km total
  • Tip: Good footwear required. This is NOT a walk, but a hike. Bring a change of T-shirt and jacket. There is often a refreshing breeze at the hut at 2,387 m.

6. The Krimml Waterfalls

Approximately 5.6 m³ of water per second plunges into the valley over three stages with a total drop of 380 meters. These are the hard facts about Europe's largest waterfall in the Salzburg region. Added to this is the indescribable beauty of this natural spectacle. Don't forget to take a deep breath of the moist air – it's very healthy. If you want to take your Instagram picture near the waterfall, make sure your cell phone is at least splash-proof!

  • Wanderhotels nearby: Wanderhotel Kirchner**** & Hotel Gassner****Superior
  • Best time: Summer
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: easy (depending on how far you want to go)
  • Tip: Wear good shoes, as it is very slippery due to the constant moisture. Rain jackets are useful if you don't want to get completely wet in the spray.

7. The Seceda

This natural gem is located in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park in South Tyrol and is definitely worth a hike, not just because it's an Instagram hotspot. The Seceda can be reached from different sides at different hiking levels. Thanks to the Seceda cable car in St. Ulrich, you can also reach the photo spot quite easily. You'll need to bring good shoes, but there's plenty of food available along the way. Numerous rustic alpine huts serve great South Tyrolean Marenden (snacks).

  • Wanderhotels nearby: Rainell Dolomites Retreat**** & Hotel Interski****
  • Best time: Summer / Fall
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: easy to difficult – depending on the route chosen

8. The Oberstalleralm

The small chapel shines white among the 18 sun-baked alpine huts on the listed Oberstalleralm in East Tyrol. This place was first mentioned in documents in 1675. Today, the Oberstalleralm is an easily accessible destination and still an insider tip as an Instagram spot.

  • Wanderhotel nearby: Naturhotel Leitlhof****s
  • Best time: autumn Instagram photos are the most famous, but the place is also beautiful in summer. tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: easy
  • Tip: A good hike for families

9. The Three Peaks

The Three Peaks rise strikingly into the sky in the Sesto Dolomites. They are certainly among the A-list celebrities of the South Tyrolean mountains. Accordingly, they are very popular on Instagram accounts. There are numerous hikes of all levels of difficulty from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the Three Peaks. For the classic photo, we recommend the hike from Sesto (5 hours), as access to the Auronzo Hut is very limited and only possible with a reservation and ticket. If the parking lot is full, the road is closed. Better: GO for it!

  • Wanderhotels nearby: Berghotel Sexten**** & Naturhotel Leitlhof****s
  • Best time: Midsummer
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: from Sexten to the Drei Zinnen Hut: moderately difficult – approx. 5.5 hours – 950 meters of elevation gain in one direction – 14.3 km
  • Tip: Be in good physical condition, wear good shoes, and bring a snack!

9.5 Cadini di Misurina Viewpoint

This mega Instagrammable spot gets a rating of 9.5 from us because it's just a stone's throw away from the Three Peaks. The actual photo spot is the small path at the bottom of the picture, while the Cadini group are the gray rock giants that pose majestically before you here. This spot is not really signposted. Here's how to get to the Cadini di Misurina Viewpoint via the approximately 3 km long path: With the Auronzo hut behind you, walk straight ahead and follow trail 117. The trail goes downhill, then uphill again until you come to a hill that blocks your view. Go around this hill to the RIGHT (the path to the left is quite dangerous) to reach the photo spot. The photographer is standing up here. If you want to have your photo taken on the small path, you have to walk a little further downhill to reach the rocky outcrop in the picture. Really cool!

  • Wanderhotels nearby: Berghotel Sexten**** & Naturhotel Leitlhof****s
  • Best time: midsummer / fall
  • Difficulty of the hike for this Instagram photo: fairly easy from the Auronzo Hut – 160 meters of elevation gain in one direction – approx. 1 hour (there and back)
  • Tip: Good footwear
