The Lienz Dolomites are among Austria’s most impressive natural settings. Even though their rugged mountain formations are not actually made of Dolomite, their calcareous towers resemble the “true” Dolomites, and they are the emblem of this wide valley basin in the mountainous region of East Tyrol. Leisurely hikes along the sunny hillsides of the Zettersfeld are just as attractive as a cycling or mountain biking tour to the surrounding valleys and villages. Mountain chalets, National Park tours and spectacular climbing routes make the Lienz Dolomites a true outdoor adventure course.

In winter, the Lienz Dolomite holiday region is among Austria’s most impressive and most snow-proof areas. The lift-free mountain and rock formations in the southern limestone peaks are an Eldorado for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. The valley basin around Lienz also contains an extensive cross-country skiing network. And if you hike up the surrounding mountains, you can whizz down the hillside on a toboggan. Skiers love the multi-faceted ski resorts, such as the World Cup-proven runs on the Schlossberg or the family-friendly slopes of the Zettersfeld.
