The magnificent Hohe Tauern National Park scenery will entice you into long walks, mountain climbs or cycling trips. Enjoy the unique flora and fauna of the rugged mountains of East Tyrol on a hike through this protected natural countryside. For those with higher goals there are no fewer than 241 peaks over 3,000m high just waiting to be conquered. Cyclists can go for a gentle ride along the rivers Drau and Isel while the mountain bikers undertake challenging trips into the mountains. There’s something there for everyone.

Between Großglockner & Großvenediger

The ultimate winter bliss can be found during a break at our Naturhotel Outside in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Winter sports in a fascinating mountain setting – surrounded by over 60 three-thousand metre peaks, including the ‘World’s Old Majesty’ – the Großvenediger, is more than just exercise: in harmony with snow-covered nature, in cool winter air, under the warming winter sun, doing something good for body and soul. After a morning of sport and before the evening’s culinary delights in the hotel’s own gourmet restaurant, you can also enjoy some time out in our spa area.

Experience the national park up close on guided snowshoe hikes, do laps on the sporty and beginner-friendly trails around the Matreier Tauernhaus, experience fun descents on the floodlit natural toboggan run ‘Würfelehütte’ or indulge in skiing fun at the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei – a varied sports programme right on the hotel doorstep. This is winter in the middle of the great outdoors.
