Embedded between the flower-studded Gailtal Alps and the historic peaks of the southern Alps along the border to Italy lies the mountaineering village of Mauthen, at the heart of the Carnic Alps.  Referred to as the “pearl of the Southern Alps” by those who appreciate its Alpine-Mediterranean flair, this landscape in western Carinthia is among Austria’s most delicious, also in culinary terms. Beer plays a special role here, and the Biermanufaktur Loncium was among the pioneers of this slow-food travel region, the first of its kind in the world.
