The Salzburger Almenweg Trail runs 350 kilometres in length: it’s a journey through the Pongau Mountains that leads to more than 120 Almen, or alpine farms. Almost one third of the alpine farms that serve food are accessible from Dorfgastein. The trail runs along historical mule paths and past glittering mountain lakes offering views of the glacial world of Hohe Tauern; of course, the delicious specialities of the Alpine farms add to the allure of the Gastein Valley’s mountain landscapes. A very popular event is the Salzburger Almsommer (Summer in the Hills) Festival, which guarantees plenty of variety and intriguing hikes.
