ZillergrundRock Luxury Mountain Resort
Despite its luxurious amenities and impressive architecture, you can still feel close to nature at the ZillergrundRock Luxury Mountain Resort. Quiet moments reveal the comforting presence of the Ziller elf, who watches over the hotel. Read here to find out how this came about.
The Legend of the Ziller Elf
In the past, when humans treated Mother Nature ruthlessly, clearing forests, polluting waterways, and digging indiscriminately in the mountains, the natural habitat of animals was threatened. According to legend, some birds seeking protection fled to a cave that was already inhabited by an elf. With kindness and goodwill, the elf took in the birds and let them live in her magnificent hair from then on. However, when the dark haze of human expansion reached the cave, the elf fled with her feathered friends to a place with fresh air, clear water, and untouched nature: the Zillergrund, now home to the ZillergrundRock Luxury Mountain Resort.
Hiking together creates a special bond. You get to know each other, strike up a conversation—and suddenly, something happens that you can't plan for: guests become friends.

From the Unterkröbas estate to a hiking hotel in the Zillertal valley
The Pfister family has been at home there, next to the rushing Ziller River and with a view of the majestic Kolm, since 1909. Great-grandfather Stanis, a hard-working woodworker and visionary, bought the Unterkröbas estate and built a guesthouse there—the foundation for today's ZillergrundRock Luxury Mountain Resort. He took only what was truly necessary from nature, thus laying the foundation for the sustainable use of resources.
Over generations, the Pfister family continued to develop the property: from an inn to a guesthouse in the 1950s to a modern hotel, always with diligence, skill, and an appreciation for people and nature. Today, Christian, Stanis' great-grandson, and his wife Melly are the fifth generation to run the property.
