Carinthia: the southern Alpine regionCarinthia, located in southern Austria, is not only the state with the most swimming and mountain lakes but also boasts 93 peaks over 3,000 metres high. Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner, is located in the state as well. Hiking amidst mountains and lakes and along streams and rivers is a sublime experience. A new and exciting trek now leads from Carinthia to Slovenia and Friuli and on to the Adriatic Sea: the Alpe-Adria-Trail runs about 700 kilometres and connects three different cultures. It's a great way to fully enjoy the southern Alpine region, which is truly a Garden of Eden.
